How can you motivate agency Account Managers to grow the business with existing clients? It all comes down to having the right pay structure to incentivize them...

In most agencies, the more the client spends the more management fees you can collect. However, if it creates value for the client, it's totally worth it for them to pony up. The downside is, the Account Managers know that with increased service comes increased management responsibilities for them. So a lot of AM's will be resistant to upgrade client's to additional services because they don't want to add to their own workload. (It's human nature to be resistant to more work.)

What you can do though, is compensate them differently based on the client spend. Create tiers for different levels of client spend that correlate to a monetary amount for the Account Managers. You should also coach and mentor your Account Managers on how to get the clients to spend more, so they can also earn more in their own paycheck.
